Sometimes numbers don't translate.
Numbers are supposed to transcend language. But weather is one place where that breaks down — 22°C and 72°F mean the same thing, but only one of them feels like anything to me.
99% of the world uses Celsius. When I started grad school, I met more and more people whose brains work in Celsius and mine doesn't. Even chatting about the weather became a barrier.
I didn't want to do math (although doubling it and adding 30 works pretty well). I wanted to actually feel what a temperature means, not calculate it. The only way to build that intuition is repetition — so Claude and I made this.
One temperature at a time.
